Speaking of Dick-lit

So, I’ve just finished Lee Child’s Persuader, and I have a distinct feeling that I wasn’t the intended audience.  This is a first-person thriller, which I understand is a departure for this series.  It is fast-paced, has some great action, a decent plot and was a compelling read.  But holy moly violent!  I have a fairly vivid imagination and there’s a couple of scenes that absolutely made me cringe. The protagonist is the classic loner, in this book we know what is motivating him in this instance (eventually) but not his whole back story.  That might have been explained in the first 6 Reacher books, I just happened to come in at book #7.   Although there are female characters, this book is all about the man and his revenge.  When Reacher isn’t plotting, double-dealing, or fighting, he manages to get laid.  Once.  And a half, sort of.  There’s very little in the book that fleshes out the personalities or motivations of any character.  I wanted to care about these people, but was never really given the opportunity.   It was a bit like clips form many action movies; lots of action, little back story.  It was an okay read, and I’d recommend it, if you like this sort of thing.  I wouldn’t read it again though, and I’m not in a hurry to read the others.

I’ve finished the Copper Crown too, but that review can wait for another post.  I’m updating so rarely I’d hate to use all my ammo in one go!
