Speaking of Gone with the Wind

How can it be that I read the book for the first time  somewhere in the neighbourhood of 30 (eek!) years ago, but only saw the movie last weekend?  And what a movie it was.  Funnily enough, I have a slightly different perspective on Miss Katie Scarlett now.  I can remember thinking that she was just a selfish little brat.  Now I’m a little more charitable.  Sure, she’s selfish-exactly as her environment and upbringing created her.  She uses the very few tools available to a woman at the time to achieve her ends.  The things she does might not be our choice, but in this age we have a lot more options.  Thank goodness.

P.S.  Wasn’t Clark Gable  a handsome man?
