Hello world!
I have a theory. For those of us that read a lot, at some point in our lives we read a book that changes the way that we perceive all other books. This book becomes the standard by which all other books are judged. For me, this book was Charlotte Bronte’s Jane Eyre.
It was a leather-bound edition of my mothers and I was about 10 years old. I’ve read it many times since and it never fails to enthrall me. I get weepy when Mr. Rochester confesses his love to Jane, telling her of the string that connects their hearts. It is pure Gothic romance, and I love every word.
I have read literally thousands of books since Jane Eyre; some wonderful, some okay, and some I’d be embarrassed to be seen reading in public. Since so far I haven’t managed to find a way to get paid to read, I’ve decided (with some prompting) that perhaps I should talk about what I’ve been reading…a little more publicly that usual. I can’t guarantee that other things that I find interesting, amusing, or just plain weird won’t find their way in as well.
“What Would Jane Say” is really just one woman’s opinion about the books she reads. I welcome your comments and suggestions as well. If you haven’t found your literary touchstone yet, maybe I’ll suggest it. Maybe not. But let’s have a coffee and chat anyway.
